Out the back with Jack…
The stories behind the images…
The first ‘Jack’ was my beloved 2015 Jeep Wrangler Overland and, with my camera and a fleet of drones, we have explored many places together.
The spirit of Jack has now moved to my new vehicle, a 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Troopcarrier, or Troopy as they’re more commonly called,
and the adventures continue…
Long weekend time…
It’s going to be hot, it will be a little sticky, but it will be amazing. We’ll be ‘out the back’ somewhere completely new, somewhere that looks pretty exciting.
From the ground up…
Im usually looking down at the surface of the earth, finding abstract and interesting shapes, colours and textures. It was refreshing to be looking up rather than down. It was also a bit of a challenge, given I hadn’t used my dslr in quite a while
The left side…
It’s not my usual spot, but I found it to be incredibly freeing. A redirection from responsibility and an absolute sense of lightness….
So now you’ve met the crew…
I’ve left Lily in charge while I go home to NZ for Christmas - my first one there in 11 years. We’ve got a wee bit of a road trip coming up…
In charge, on the job, always left behind…
Im the responsible one, but Im always left behind. Jack belongs to me. It’s my job to check him all over and make sure he’s ok. On the fridge, along the windscreen, down on the floor, under the bonnet, up on the roof. You name it, I check it.
Gladstone Bay…
There’s a little sign on the unassuming farm style gate that tells you this is where you need to go, to get to the paradise that’s waiting at the end of the drive. If you blink you’ll miss it.
A new situation-ship…
Hot. Dusty. Bloody flies everywhere from the second the sun crested the horizon till the second it dropped back down the other direction.
