Out the back with Jack…
The stories behind the images…
Travel tales and adventures out & about with Jack

The middle of nothingness…
Sitting out in the middle of what feels like a vast nothingness.
Far off in the darkness the flickering orange flames from your campfire acts as a directional beacon…

How did she do?
After a pretty disastrous first trip, back out we went. A different location, bloody miles from home but ready for any eventuality… so how did she go…

It’s so peaceful…
All I can hear is crickets chirping, and the wind softly whooshing through the trees, following the shape of the hills behind my campsite. It’s a restful, gentle noise.

Long weekend time…
It’s going to be hot, it will be a little sticky, but it will be amazing. We’ll be ‘out the back’ somewhere completely new, somewhere that looks pretty exciting.

From the ground up…
Im usually looking down at the surface of the earth, finding abstract and interesting shapes, colours and textures. It was refreshing to be looking up rather than down. It was also a bit of a challenge, given I hadn’t used my dslr in quite a while

The left side…
It’s not my usual spot, but I found it to be incredibly freeing. A redirection from responsibility and an absolute sense of lightness….

So now you’ve met the crew…
I’ve left Lily in charge while I go home to NZ for Christmas - my first one there in 11 years. We’ve got a wee bit of a road trip coming up…

In charge, on the job, always left behind…
Im the responsible one, but Im always left behind. Jack belongs to me. It’s my job to check him all over and make sure he’s ok. On the fridge, along the windscreen, down on the floor, under the bonnet, up on the roof. You name it, I check it.
