Out the back with Jack…
The stories behind the images…
Travel tales and adventures out & about with Jack
Sunrise… sunset…
I was the only person there, except for the odd solitary runner, listening to the waves washing up against the rocks, watching the sky glow with early morning light behind the cityscape.
In golden light…
The wire fence was covered with love locks engraved and attached to the fence by couples declaring their everlasting love for each other, was bathed in a warm, golden light.
A true icon…
Turns out the cheeky little stop didn’t need to happen after all and could have been avoided, but where’s the fun in that? It gave me an opportunity to visit somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, to see something I’ve always looked at photos of longingly, and always been fascinated with….
The crossing…
The bridge was only completed in 2012 so you’d really have needed to plan your travels before it was built.
I was in total awe of this gorgeous bridge spanning this river, standing tall above the frozen waters. I imagine it would be a stunning sight during a snow storm or shrouded in fog, at sunrise and sunset.
Doha - part 1
The whole city was going to be shut for the whole day. At that stage I didn’t much care I just wanted out of his vehicle. Now in retrospect I can see I was pretty tired and wired. He was likely truly authentic and just trying to make money for his family, but my overtired spidey senses had me parting ways with him anyway. Sitting in his car I had been kicking myself for getting in, in the first place, but it is what it is, right? Lesson learned - follow your plan even when tired and a little off balance.
The Yellowknife experience…
Walking across the ice towards the middle of the top of a huge frozen lake I paused and looked around, suddenly aware of exactly where I was standing. A quick look at where that little blue dot was on Google Maps - me - showed I really was miles from the middle…
Roadtripping to Yellowknife
Im pretty used to road trips and love driving, especially driving Jack. Usually though, our road trips are a bit limited due to time and distance and the requirement that Im at work on a Monday morning. So our trips are mostly limited to between 2-5 hours max from where I live.
When planning this trip to North America though, I had toyed with the idea of road tripping to Yellowknife, which is in the Canadian Northwest Territories. I figured while I was up this was I should probably see if I could catch the Aurora Borelias, a bucket list item for sure.
Texas back roads
Driving through the granite hills and ravines of the Texas Hill Country she could easily imagine cowboys of the Wild West era galloping through the deep ravines, riding hard to get through before any potential ambushes could start a gun fight. It was the perfect space for ambushes to be conducted at random depending on who the prey might be.
…and then it happened
It was beyond anything I could have imagined. I did not expect that! I was overwhelmed by the whole thing…I felt so tiny, like a blip. Here one minute and gone the next, yet connected to everyone and everything, space, the universe, everything living and everything not. The earth, the sea, the air.
Just like that…
I'm thinking about maybe going to see the eclipse next week, its just up the road. Seems silly not to take advantage of it being so close...
...you'll kick yourself if you don't!
