Heading home…
When you’ve been away for a while, whether its for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, or if you’re really lucky maybe a month or two.. and you’ve had an amazing time, the lasts become more... noticeable.
You’re more aware and more, maybe present I guess.
On the last day you either pack as much last minute ‘holidaying’ in, or have a slow, relaxing day; either way you’re soaking up the last aspects of your holiday experience.
For me it was those things and more. The last dinner, the last sunset, and the last sunrise, on the ‘heading home’ day.
My last Queen Bees breakfast… a delicious ham n cheese toast, a chai latte just because I wanted an extra ‘last’ from the coffee truck. Packing up and then the final pack down. One last stop to get Jilly’s trailer cable fixed then we hit the road, home time.

It was a really windy trip but we cruised happily along, singing away and waving at the approaching drivers… its an Aussie thing and it’s rude not to you know 😉
Stopping a hundred odd km’s out from Southern Cross I noticed Jilly had a couple more electrical issues pop up so when I saw a sign in a paddock advertising the Southern Cross garage, I figured I would just stop in and see if I was able to get these fixed on the fly.
I knew bad weather was moving in back in Perth so had decided to push through and get home rather than camp out for another night, so would be driving in the dark. The lights I needed were pretty critical.
I pulled in to the auto workshop and considered myself extremely lucky to have them happy to take care of my little problems right there and then. The problems related to visibility and safety of the camper lights.
I ended up as trade assistant to Jamie, who runs the place.
I told him I saw his sign on the highway and pulled in on the off chance. He said he’s going to take down the sign.
I laughed.
I took a photo of him hard at work on the camper and said I’d post it on Facebook, telling everyone how great he is, so they’d stop in.
He just looked at me 😳 I smiled back 😊
So… I can’t tell you that Jamie is a top bloke, or that I really enjoyed the whole experience.
I can’t tell you how very much I appreciated him dropping what he was doing and taking care of my little hiccups so I could continue the drive home. 😁
I can’t even tell you what a excellent service he provided, although Im pretty sure you can read between the lines 😉
What I can tell you though is that I told him I’ll be back to shout him a beer at the pub 😁 …and I will.
See you next time I come through, Jamie, 😁 it’s only a few weeks away.
