Out the back with Jack…
The stories behind the images…
The first ‘Jack’ was my beloved 2015 Jeep Wrangler Overland and, with my camera and a fleet of drones, we have explored many places together.
The spirit of Jack has now moved to my new vehicle, a 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Troopcarrier, or Troopy as they’re more commonly called,
and the adventures continue…
…and then it happened
It was beyond anything I could have imagined. I did not expect that! I was overwhelmed by the whole thing…I felt so tiny, like a blip. Here one minute and gone the next, yet connected to everyone and everything, space, the universe, everything living and everything not. The earth, the sea, the air.
Just like that…
I'm thinking about maybe going to see the eclipse next week, its just up the road. Seems silly not to take advantage of it being so close...
...you'll kick yourself if you don't!
A change in plans…
The Exmouth Gulf is a stunning landscape, full of deep reds, brilliant greens, and the widest open skies, setting a perfect stage to watch rain bands drift over the land, spilling their precious bounty across the parched landscape.
The swimming hole…
Three nicely cut branch pieces nailed to the tree act as a ladder, leading you up to the rope swing. Another ladder made of branches leans against the bank, leading from the waters edge back up to the tree.
Disconnected…
My heart stopped as I realised my drone was probably further from me than he should have been. Scanning the sky above looking for that little speck of white on a dazzling blue backdrop with white-ish clouds scattered across it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Snippets of a life…
if someone from the future found my phone, and managed to turn it on and access it, what will they think of the snippets of my life
The middle of nothingness…
Sitting out in the middle of what feels like a vast nothingness.
Far off in the darkness the flickering orange flames from your campfire acts as a directional beacon…
How did she do?
After a pretty disastrous first trip, back out we went. A different location, bloody miles from home but ready for any eventuality… so how did she go…
It’s so peaceful…
All I can hear is crickets chirping, and the wind softly whooshing through the trees, following the shape of the hills behind my campsite. It’s a restful, gentle noise.
