Palette

from $120.00

This is what a mine looks like after the people leave. The machinery goes, the workers go, the purpose goes — and what's left behind is this: the ground saturated with decades of minerals and ores, each one lending its particular colour to the earth. Rust, ochre, teal, olive, gold. A palette that nobody planned, left by industry on its way out. Great Southern, Western Australia.

I find something quietly compelling about landscapes that carry the evidence of human activity without any humans in them. Palette is one of those images. It's rich, complex and genuinely beautiful in a way that feels slightly uncomfortable if you think too hard about how it got that way — which I think is what makes it interesting. Suits large format particularly well. A conversation piece in the most literal sense.

This is a landscape oriented print.

Print comes rolled in protective paper, in a postage tube, ready for mounting and framing.
